POLICIES AT A GLANCE
Key City Theatre is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, accessible, and respectful environment for audiences, artists, staff, volunteers, renters, and the wider community. All events—whether presented by Key City Theatre or by external renters—must comply with these policies.
-
SAFE & INCLUSIVE PROGRAMMING STATEMENT
Key City Theatre is committed to being a safe, inclusive, and respectful space for all who enter our building. We honour that our work takes place on the traditional and unceded territory of the Ktunaxa People and recognize the ongoing impacts of colonialism and the residential school system.
Our programming includes both events presented by Key City Theatre and events presented by renters and external promoters. Regardless of who is presenting, all events in our facility are expected to reflect our values of respect, safety, equity, and care.
We believe that the performing arts can challenge, provoke, and inspire meaningful dialogue. At the same time, we do not host work that promotes hatred, violence, or discrimination against individuals or groups based on protected characteristics. We reserve the right to decline, condition, or cancel any event that creates a foreseeable risk of harm to patrons, artists, staff, volunteers, students, or the wider community. -

Decisions regarding approval, refusal, conditioning, or cancellation are based on duty of care to patrons, artists, staff, students of our shared campus, and the broader community. KCT collects personal information only for legitimate and reasonable operational purposes, including ticketing and box office services, communications and marketing, program delivery, donations, reporting, safety, accessibility, and operational requirements, and limits collection to what is necessary for those purposes.
Key City Theatre is the sole custodian of ticket purchaser and patron data collected through its ticketing systems, websites, and digital platforms. Patron data is never sold and is not shared for third-party marketing, promotions, mailing lists, or solicitation without explicit opt-in consent. Renters, promoters, artists, or presenters are not automatically entitled to access ticket buyer personal information. Where limited data sharing is required for essential operational purposes such as audits, reconciliation, or regulatory reporting, any sharing is minimal, purpose-specific, time-limited, and governed by a written data-handling agreement.

To protect patron privacy, ensure informed consent, and maintain clear data custodianship, third-party renters, promoters, artists, or presenters are not permitted to install, embed, request, or deploy their own tracking technologies on KCT-controlled systems, including ticketing and box office platforms, event pages or web embeds hosted by KCT, email communications, confirmation pages, or digital programs. Renters may deploy their own tracking and advertising tools on external websites or platforms not controlled by KCT, subject to their own privacy policies and consent mechanisms. KCT may, at its discretion, provide aggregated, non-identifying attendance or sales data for reporting or reconciliation purposes; individual patron data and platform-level tracking access are not shared.
Patrons have the right to access their personal information, request corrections, withdraw marketing consent, and be removed from mailing lists at any time by contacting Key City Theatre directly. Key City Theatre Ticket Resale and Anti-Scalping Policy
Applies To: All tickets sold for events presented at Key City Theatre, Cranbrook, BC
Tickets to Key City Theatre events are valid only if purchased through our box office, website, or authorized ticketing partners. Resale of tickets for profit is strictly prohibited. Tickets identified as being purchased for resale may be cancelled and refunded without advance notice. Entry is not guaranteed for tickets purchased through unauthorized sellers. This policy complies with BC’s Ticket Sales Act and protects fair access for our community.
Questions? Contact our box office at boxoffice@keycitytheatre.com.
1. Authorized Ticket Sales
Tickets for Key City Theatre events are valid only if purchased through:
· The Key City Theatre Box Office (in person or by phone),
· The Key City Theatre website, or
· An authorized ticketing partner (as listed on our website).
Tickets purchased from unauthorized third-party sources (e.g. StubHub, Viagogo, Kijiji, Craigslist, etc.) are not guaranteed to be valid and may be cancelled without advance notice.
This is consistent with practices at leading Canadian venues, including Massey Hall and Arts Commons, which caution that tickets from unauthorized sources may be invalid, counterfeit, or refused at entry.
2. Resale of Tickets
Under British Columbia’s Ticket Sales Act (SBC 2020, c. 4), reselling tickets above face value is only legal if:
· The seller offers a money-back guarantee, and
· The ticket remains valid for entry.
However, regardless of this legal allowance, Key City Theatre maintains the right to:
· Prohibit resale above face value, and
· Cancel tickets that are resold or offered for resale in violation of our terms.
This means that even if a resale includes a money-back guarantee, we may still cancel the ticket if it is listed or sold at an inflated price through unauthorized means.
3. Ticket Use and Transfer
We understand that sometimes plans change. Patrons may:
· Transfer tickets to another individual at face value (e.g., giving a ticket to a friend or family member),
· Or return tickets to the box office for refund or resale, depending on our standard return policy.
However, tickets must not be:
· Resold for profit,
· Offered through online marketplaces without permission, or
· Used for promotional or commercial purposes without written consent.
4. Suspicious Activity and Enforcement
Key City Theatre actively monitors ticket purchases and may investigate patterns that suggest:
· High-volume buying using multiple accounts or identities,
· Use of bots or automated purchasing software,
· Resale listings for inflated prices on third-party websites.
We reserve the right to:
· Cancel and refund suspicious orders,
· Void tickets being resold at inflated prices,
· Refuse entry to individuals presenting invalid or cancelled tickets.
These enforcement measures are aligned with industry standards and exist to protect fair access for our audience.
5. Why This Policy Matters
Unregulated resale drives up ticket prices, limits community access, and undermines our commitment to affordable, inclusive cultural experiences. This policy ensures tickets reach real patrons—not scalpers—and helps preserve the integrity of the arts in our region.
6. Contact for Resale Concerns

Ticket Resale FAQ
Q: Where should I buy tickets for Key City Theatre shows?
Only purchase tickets directly through:
· Our website: www.keycitytheatre.com and https://purchase.keycitytheatre.com/Events
· Our box office: (250) 426-7006
· Any ticketing partner listed on our website.
Q: What happens if I buy from a resale site like StubHub or Viagogo?
These are not authorized sellers. While BC law allows resale with a money-back guarantee, Key City Theatre does not guarantee the validity of tickets purchased through third-party platforms. Your ticket may be cancelled or refused at the door.
Q: How do you spot resellers?
We monitor sales for suspicious activity—bulk orders, out-of-province addresses, duplicate accounts, and resale listings. If we suspect a ticket was purchased for resale, we may cancel and refund it to protect fair access.
Q: Can I sell my ticket if I can’t attend?
If you need to transfer a ticket to a friend or family member, we encourage you to do so privately and at face value. However, resale above the original price is not permitted through our box office and may violate our terms.
Q: How do I report a scalper?
Send us a quick email at boxoffice@keycitytheatre.com or call (250) 426-7006. Let us know the ticket listing or suspicious seller, and we’ll investigate.
Q: Why does this matter?
Scalping drives up prices and limits community access to arts and culture. This policy is about fairness, affordability, and making sure the seats are filled by real fans—not bots or resellers.
