POLICIES AT A GLANCE
Key City Theatre Society (“Key City Theatre”, “we” or “our”) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, accessible, and respectful environment for audiences, artists, staff, volunteers, licensees (the “licensees” or “renters”), and the wider community. All events—whether presented by Key City Theatre or by unaffiliated third-party renters—must comply with these policies
-
SAFE & INCLUSIVE PROGRAMMING STATEMENT
Key City Theatre is committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful space for all who enter our facility (the “facility” or “venue”). We honour that our work takes place on the traditional and unceded territory of the Ktunaxa People and recognize the ongoing impacts of colonialism and the residential school system.
Our programming includes both events presented by Key City Theatre and events presented by unaffiliated third-party renters and promoters. Regardless of who is presenting, all events held in our facility are expected to reflect our values of respect, safety, equity, and care.
We believe that the performing arts can challenge, provoke, and inspire meaningful dialogue. At the same time, we aim to ensure and we expect that events presented at Key City Theatre do not promote hatred, violence, or discrimination against individuals or groups based on protected characteristics under applicable law.
Key City Theatre, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to decline, set conditions upon, suspend, or cancel any event that may:
• promote hatred, violence, or discrimination; or
• create a foreseeable risk of harm to patrons, artists, staff, volunteers, students, or the wider community.
Key City Theatre acknowledges that, despite its commitment and efforts to maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful space, circumstances beyond its control may arise in which artists or performers present content that may be inconsistent with this policy. In such cases, the views, opinions, language, and content expressed are solely those of the presenter and do not necessarily reflect the views or values of Key City Theatre. The use or rental of the venue by a third party does not constitute endorsement by Key City Theatre of such party or any associated presenter or event
-
RENTAL ELIGIBILITY & USE POLICY
Key City Theatre welcomes rental requests from artists, schools, community organizations, nonprofits, businesses, and promoters whose activities align with our mission, values, and policies.
All renters must be legally authorized to enter into a rental or license agreement, carry required insurance, and comply with all applicable laws and Key City Theatre policies in effect from time to time.
All events held at the Key City Theatre facility must be lawful and must comply with all Key City Theatre policies in effect from time to time. Events must not promote hatred, violence, or discrimination and must not create a foreseeable risk to public safety, workplace safety, or safety of our shared school-adjacent campus.
Key City Theatre, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to refuse, set conditions upon, suspend, or cancel any rental or license where reasonable safety, legal, operational, reputational, or policy-related risks are identified by Key City Theatre at any stage of the rental process.
-
PERFORMER / RENTER CODE OF CONDUCT
This Code of Conduct applies to all performers, speakers, promoters, renters, touring personnel, crew members, volunteers, and their guests while on Key City Theatre property or representing an event held at our venue.
All individuals must behave respectfully and professionally at all times. This includes:
• complying with all Key City Theatre policies and safety requirements in effect from time to time;
• following all instructions provided by Key City Theatre staff; and
• refraining from harassment, bullying, intimidation, abusive behaviour, discriminatory language, or any form of unsafe or disruptive conduct.
All renters and performers are responsible for the conduct of their staff, contractors, volunteers, and guests while at our facility.
Violations of this Code of Conduct or any other Key City Theatre policy may result in one or more of the following consequences, as determined by Key City Theatre at its sole discretion: removal from the premises, suspension or cancellation of events, termination of agreements, financial liability for damages, and/or refusal of future bookings
-
CONTROVERSIAL / SENSITIVE EVENT EVALUATION POLICY
Key City Theatre may evaluate proposed events in accordance with its full “Controversial / Sensitive Event Evaluation Policy” that reasonably present foreseeable risk related to public safety, discrimination, harassment, community harm, reputational risk, or conflict with Key City Theatre’s values and/or policies.
Decisions regarding the approval, refusal, imposition of conditions, suspension, or cancellation of a proposed event are based on Key City Theatre’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for patrons, artists, staff, students of our shared campus, and the broader community. Evaluation may include consideration of event content, public history of performers, past incidents, security requirements, and alignment with Key City Theatre policies in effect from time to time. All evaluations are conducted by Key City Theatre at its sole discretion, and all decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
-

Key City Theatre Ticket Resale and Anti-Scalping Policy
Applies To: All tickets sold for events presented at Key City Theatre, Cranbrook, BC
Tickets to Key City Theatre events are valid only if purchased through our box office, website, or authorized ticketing partners. Resale of tickets for profit is strictly prohibited. Tickets identified as being purchased for resale may be cancelled and refunded without advance notice by Key City Theatre at its sole discretion. Entry is not guaranteed for tickets purchased through unauthorized sellers. This policy complies with BC’s Ticket Sales Act, S.B.C. 2019, c. 13 (the “Ticket Sales Act”)and protects fair access for our community.
Questions? Contact our box office at boxoffice@keycitytheatre.com.
1. Authorized Ticket Sales
Tickets for Key City Theatre events are valid only if purchased through:
• The Key City Theatre Box Office (in person or by phone),
• The Key City Theatre website, or
• An authorized ticketing partner (as listed on our website).
Tickets purchased from unauthorized third-party sources (e.g. StubHub, Viagogo, Kijiji, Craigslist, etc.) are not guaranteed to be valid and may be cancelled without advance notice.
This is consistent with practices at leading Canadian venues, including Massey Hall and Arts Commons, which caution that tickets from unauthorized sources may be invalid, counterfeit, or refused at entry.
2. Resale of Tickets
Under the Ticket Sales Act, reselling tickets above face value is only legal if:
× The seller offers a money-back guarantee, and
× The ticket remains valid for entry.
However, regardless of this legal allowance, Key City Theatre maintains the right to:
× Prohibit resale above face value, and
× Cancel tickets that are resold or offered for resale in violation of our terms.
This means that even if a resale includes a money-back guarantee, we may still cancel the ticket if it is listed or sold at an inflated price through unauthorized means.
3. Ticket Use and Transfer
We understand that sometimes plans change. Patrons may:
× Transfer tickets to another individual at face value (e.g., giving a ticket to a friend or family member),
× Or return tickets to the box office for refund or resale, depending on our standard return policy.
However, tickets must not be:
× Resold for profit,
× Offered through online marketplaces without permission, or
× Used for promotional or commercial purposes without written consent.
4. Suspicious Activity and Enforcement
Key City Theatre actively monitors ticket purchases and may investigate patterns that suggest:
× High-volume buying using multiple accounts or identities,
× Use of bots or automated purchasing software,
× Resale listings for inflated prices on third-party websites.
We reserve the right to:
× Cancel and refund suspicious orders,
× Void tickets being resold at inflated prices,
× Refuse entry to individuals presenting invalid or cancelled tickets.
These enforcement measures are aligned with industry standards and exist to protect fair access for our audience.
5. Why This Policy Matters
Unregulated resale drives up ticket prices, limits community access, and undermines our commitment to affordable, inclusive cultural experiences. This policy ensures tickets reach real patrons—not scalpers—and helps preserve the integrity of the arts in our region.
6. Contact for Resale Concerns
If you are unsure whether a seller is authorized or wish to report suspected reselling activity, please contact us:
Ticket Resale FAQ
Q: Where should I buy tickets for Key City Theatre shows?
Only purchase tickets directly through:
× Our website: www.keycitytheatre.com and https://purchase.keycitytheatre.com/Events
× Our box office: (250) 426-7006
× Any ticketing partner listed on our website.
Q: What happens if I buy from a resale site like StubHub or Viagogo?
These are not authorized sellers. While BC law allows resale with a money-back guarantee, Key City Theatre does not guarantee the validity of tickets purchased through third-party platforms. Your ticket may be cancelled or refused at the door.
Q: How do you spot resellers?
We monitor sales for suspicious activity—bulk orders, out-of-province addresses, duplicate accounts, and resale listings. If we suspect a ticket was purchased for resale, we may cancel and refund it to protect fair access.
Q: Can I sell my ticket if I can’t attend?
If you need to transfer a ticket to a friend or family member, we encourage you to do so privately and at face value. However, resale above the original price is not permitted through our box office and may violate our terms.
Q: How do I report a scalper?
Send us a quick email at boxoffice@keycitytheatre.com or call (250) 426-7006. Let us know the ticket listing or suspicious seller, and we’ll investigate.
Q: Why does this matter?
Scalping drives up prices and limits community access to arts and culture. This policy is about fairness, affordability, and making sure the seats are filled by real fans—not bots or resellers
