Shaun & Lu

Get to know Shaun & Lu:

Shaun Longstreet (he/him - gay identified white settler) came to Cranbrook in 2021. Born in Treaty 6 Territory (Edmonton), Shaun has spent the majority of his like outside of Canada. He came out in 1988 and has had a happy life as a gay man, including the past 11 years with his partner, Lu. As a first generation high-school student from rural Alberta and as someone who has lived in spaces with histories of being hostile to queer lives (e.g. rural America, the Middle East), he has been an advocate for queer pride and equity for many years. Much of his life has been evenly split between being a small-town and an urban gay fellow. Working in higher education, he has organized many 2SLBTQ+ events, participated in advocacy groups, and presented at conferences pushing for increased spaces for queer experiences and voices.
