About the Show
Presented by Key City Theatre
A poetic journey from Canada to Senegal, bringing the many stories of water to life through puppetry, storytelling and live music.
Every drop of water tells a story.
Mamby and Hélène are two friends living worlds apart—one in Senegal and the other in Canada. One feels hot sand beneath her feet, while the other bundles up against snow and ice. One lives surrounded by water; the other must search for it and carry it home in buckets.
Blending puppetry, object theatre, storytelling and live music, Water Words travels from the Sahel region of West Africa to North America to explore the many ways water shapes our lives. Spring water, well water, salt water, rainwater, snow and ice become characters in a visually imaginative story about abundance, scarcity and our shared responsibility for this precious resource.
Created through a collaboration between Québec’s Théâtre Motus and Senegal’s Djarama, Water Words offers families a beautiful and thought-provoking encounter between cultures—and an invitation to see something familiar in an entirely new way.
Recommended for ages 6 and up.
Running time: approximately 50 minutes.
